Change the Game
New Mexico Black Leadership Council & Duke City Pro-Am Present Change the Game Community Basketball Tournament
ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – “Don’t hate the player, hate the game” may be the saying, but at New Mexico Black Leadership Council (NMBLC) and Duke City Pro-Am, we prefer to change the game entirely. On and off the court, we’re redefining how competition and community work together. That’s why we’re inviting you to step up and be a game-changer at the Change the Game Community Basketball Tournament. Happening Saturday, October 26th, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Bosque School in Albuquerque, this tournament is open to all—teams and free agents alike—and the ultimate prize isn’t just cash, it’s the chance to rewrite the playbook.
Not only will players show off their skills on the court, they will be part of a national movement to make a difference in our communities by promoting civic engagement and participatory democracy by leagues like the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) as well as the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation in collaboration with THE TUNL and its Creative Director Desyrée Nicole. Every player registration doubles as a voter education and engagement opportunity—helping to amplify our communities’ voices when and where it counts the most. This community hoop fest uses the love of this game to invoke dialogue around building community through voting.
Jordan Locke, Change the Game project manager, said, “Basketball is a game that brings people together, and voting is the most powerful way we can come together as a community to create change. This tournament is about more than the love of the game … it’s about using our voices, making our votes count, and showing up for our future. The freedom to vote is one of our greatest rights, and now more than ever, we need to use that power.”
We can’t wait to see you on the court to “Change the Game”—both in sports and in shaping the future of our communities. This event is open to the public and will feature a DJ, local vendors, voter outreach and major game-changing vibes. We encourage all who are interested to join us.
